5 FOODS THAT MAY CAUSE WEIRD DREAMS
There’s no fully understood logic to grasp when it comes to the complexity of dreams. Often, one would question what someone dreams about, why they dreamed it in the first place and why they can’t remember it, even within minutes of waking up. Although the reasoning isn’t fully understood and varies per human, there are foods that may make your dreams feel a bit crazy. Eating right before bed can enable crazy dreams to occur, so many consider their diet. Limiting these foods, especially in the evening, can be something to consider.
1. CAFFEINE
While the tea or coffee that you drink before bed may feel like a de-stressing action, it can actually be causing you to have some mad dreams. The problem is not the tea/coffee itself, but the caffeine content within. You’re relaxing your body muscles, but your mind remains stimulated. Not only does this often prevent you from falling into a deep sleep, your dreams end up being bizarre, causing you to keep waking up and lose the amount of sleep you get during the night. Try a decaffeinated option and see if it helps.
2. CHERRIES
Strangely enough, the same ingredient in cherries that helps you keep a sleep schedule and fall asleep easier, can be the same ingredient that keeps the steady motion of crazy dreams. Melatonin is helpful in sleep schedules but can be harmful to people who have sensitive hormones, causing their dreams to turn mental. If you like to chomp into a few cherries in the evening, try and alternative and see if it helps.
3. VALERIAN ROOT
Very similar to the effects of melatonin, valerian root can be used as a sleep aid but can also have effects on your dreams. The flowering plant’s roots are usually brewed for tea and aids sleep. Vivid dreams may occur as a side effect of valerian, which is why it’s recommended to take only a couple of weeks at a time. The overconsumption of this rooted plant can be the reason your dreams are too vivid and too wild to explain.
4. SPICY FOODS
Spicy foods are one of the most common reasons for having crazy dreams. There’s extra work to be put in by your body’s digestion system when it comes to digesting spices. It makes your body work overtime and interrupts the flow of your natural sleep pattern, causing your dreams to be more vivid and strange than you’d normally expect.
If you are someone who struggles with the digestion of spicy foods, try and keep these spices to a minimum, especially when it’s nearing bed time.
5. DAIRY PRODUCTS
The branches of the dairy tree go back to cheese and also which kind of cheese. The type of cheese you digest before bed can be the cause of your vivid dreams. Cheese can up the melatonin that you need to fall asleep, but as previously mentioned, too much melatonin for some can be the cause of their strange dreams.
The indigestion process of cheese can also be a major factor to your dreams. Your body is pumping energy with your digestive process and it’s this process that can take away a peaceful night of sleep, leading to crazy/vivid dreams.
